Bone Anatomy - Harpy wing

Bone anatomy picture this time c:
it was really fun to do~

I do have feeling I'll do muscles also with this style~

I don't really know what to type~
Human bones till elbow and then it changes to bird wing bones.

this felt good to do, made me think wing sizes more c:

this is my very first doodling of my Swannies wing:

^ Look post of this in link

I liked the idea though, how wing would fold like how human would normally use their hands
I need to try get idea how to use this though~

Black Swan King

I got lots of requests to draw Denka's dad, Reigi, who is king of their clan.
I was trying think for months what I make him look like, it was harder than I thought..
I had to make him a little bit like Denka, but manlier. I also got art block for any kind of designing so it didn't make it any easier.

This is how it came out;

I think I still need to learn how to draw adult people, or even a little older looking.

Here is how I draw details to wings:
(sorry dA watermarks~)

Lastly, if you are into BL, you can click [here] to see my 3 panel short "comic" of Reigi~

Black swan harpie

If I would have to choose category to my OC swans it would be Harpies
I wanted give a try make one really harpy looking c:
There is still things I could have done better but this is good enough,
so here is what I made, and I wanted use as my model of my OC Denka :D

Progress parts:
I usually draw always hands even though my character might have wings, it helps me work with anatomy~
Final colors I check in Photoshop. Background also made my me.

Anatomy and swan study

This time I was studying swan types and anatomy c:
I was hoping seeing differences of swans would help me edit my own swans
(picture might have mistakes)
Different swan types
Swans are in size order and wing sides compared to body should also be right
  • Trumpeter Swan
    • Body: 150cm ♂, -140cm♀
    • Wings: 190-250cm
  • Mute Swan
    • Body: 145-160cm
    • Wings: 210-240cm
  • Whooper Swan
    • Body: 140-160cm
    • Wings: 205-235cm
  • Black Swan
    • Body: 110-140cm
    • Wings: 160-200cm
  • Tundra Swan
    • Body: 115-150cm
    • Wings: 168-211cm
  • Black-necked Swan
    • Body: 102-124cm
    • Wings: 135-177cm
Note: Female swans (Pen's) are smaller ones than males (Cob's)

Wings, wings and wings

I started look at my OC's wings a little, at first they worked well and looked good but now I think I got a little lazier with them.
If I need to say category for my swans they would be harpies. Unlike their wings my swan's wings starts from elbow. That was hard enough to decide them look good and also trying make them big enough.
Denka Black Swan, My first and loved OC (Drawn in December 4, 2011)
My plan was good how I wanted wings work. They simply fold from "wrist" like a real swan fold their wings.
Wings were quick to draw and easy to fold them to positions I wanted, actually... way too quick to draw. I started be lazy to draw all feathers, and idea wings being black I though others will not pay so much attention to them.
Wings are kind of the most important part of my characters and I  started be lazy... That makes me shame a little when I look at my old drawings...

first sketches of wing's anatomy
To think now, wings what I've drawn doesn't really look at all like a real one. I love details of feathers and how they are perfectly in own layers. I drew them both, real like and what I have drawn. I started feel silly seeing how wings what I used to draw doesn't actually look like a wings I though they look like.

I have in my mind to update my swan's human form wings more realistic.
I wouldn't have problem to change wing style but that my Swan's wings starts from elbow. Real wings are wide and it looks stupid to stop them to elbow like they are, that's why I made wings in the first pace to go smaller towards to the elbow.

So my next project with my Black Swans is redesign their wings, and hopefully  they will end up look good.

Real wing and my OC's wing

Lastly I wanted add drawing of my latest anatomy study how Swan fold their wings. When swan have wings closed it looks to me only bunch of feathers (first row, 3rd picture). I just wanted make it clear to me how it works.
